BOTULINUM TOXIN

Botulinum toxin

There are eight types of botulinum toxin (A, B, C1, C2, D, E, F, and G). In aesthetic medicine, type A is used. Before its application in aesthetics, botulinum toxin was primarily used in neurology and ophthalmology.

The effects of Botox are reversible and temporary.

Botulinum toxin (Botox) does more than just reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles; it can also be used preventatively as an anti-aging treatment. Additionally, these preparations are used to lift specific areas of the face, slim the appearance, and balance asymmetrical features.

Initial results appear after approximately 3–5 days, with the maximum effect reached between 2 and 10 weeks. The treatment’s effectiveness lasts between 3 to 6 months, depending on individual factors such as the patient’s body, lifestyle, and the amount and concentration of the injected dose.

The treatments are suitable for both women and men and can be performed year-round.

Safe use of botulinum toxin requires:

thorough knowledge of the treatment area;

detailed anatomical understanding;

familiarity with the specific preparation used and its mechanism of action;

identification of contraindications and determination of indications for the procedure;

understanding the patient’s expectations and assessing muscle tone and facial expressions;

precise designation of appropriate injection sites;

administering the correct dosage at the proper depth.

Treatments using botulinum toxin

SmoothTox, Baby Botox, Face Modelling, Wrinkle Reduction (Anti-Wrinkle Injections)

SmoothTox

This treatment involves microneedle mesotherapy combined with personalised active ingredients, along with a small amount of botulinum toxin (Botox) applied precisely where needed.

The effects include smoothing the skin, reducing the activity of sebaceous and sweat glands (sebum and sweat production), and tightening enlarged pores. It also helps reduce wrinkles, improve facial contours, nourish the skin, and increase its density and elasticity.

SmoothTox is designed for clients with demanding skin concerns such as enlarged pores, early signs of ageing, and excessive sebum production. Results are visible after just one treatment. The recommended number of sessions and treatment intervals are individually tailored to the client’s needs, preferences, and expected outcomes.

Baby Botox (Mesobotox)

This procedure involves injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin intradermally for a subtle, natural-looking effect. The low dose allows wrinkle reduction without restricting facial expressions.

The treatment softens fine lines while maintaining natural facial movement, resulting in a rested, relaxed, and refreshed appearance.

It is ideal for clients seeking preventative treatment, a natural Botox effect, and smoothing of fine wrinkles. Results can be seen after one session. The recommended treatment plan is personalised according to individual needs. Effects typically last around 3–5 months, depending on lifestyle, metabolism, and individual factors.

Face Modelling

Botulinum toxin can be used to achieve various face-modelling effects, including:

– lifting the eyebrow arches,

– elevating the tip of the nose,

– narrowing the nostrils (nose slimming),

– slimming the face (e.g., to reduce bruxism effects),

– enhancing the facial profile,

– improving the appearance of the chin (e.g., cobblestone chin wrinkles),

– lip flip,

– Nefertiti lift.

Results appear after one treatment. The number of sessions and intervals are customised to the client’s goals. Effects generally last 3–6 months, depending on lifestyle and metabolism.

Wrinkle Reduction (Anti-Wrinkle Injections)

Botulinum toxin is a safe, minimally invasive, and effective treatment to reduce wrinkles. It targets:

– horizontal forehead lines,

– vertical frown lines (glabellar lines),

– crow’s feet around the eyes,

– lower eyelid wrinkles,

– nose wrinkles (bunny lines),

– lines around the mouth (smoker’s lines, gummy smile, lip concealment),

– marionette lines (corners of the mouth),

– chin wrinkles,

– neck wrinkles.

Results become noticeable after one treatment. The number of sessions and intervals are tailored individually. The effects usually last 3–6 months, depending on the client’s lifestyle and metabolism.

Recommendations after botulinum toxin treatments:

– do not lie down or bend over for several hours after the treatment, as this may affect the even distribution of the product in the skin.

– avoid procedures involving radiofrequency, laser treatments, and deep infrared for several weeks.

– refrain from strenuous physical activity for up to 24 hours after the procedure.

– avoid saunas, sunbeds, and sunbathing for up to two weeks following the treatment.

– always use a high SPF sunscreen throughout the year.

Botox is not recommended for:

– pregnant or breastfeeding women,

– patients with myasthenia gravis,

– people with Lambert-Eaton syndrome,

– individuals allergic to human albumin,

– patients taking spectinomycin or aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Botox is the common name for botulinum toxin.

How long does Botox last?
Initial effects are seen after around 3 to 5 days, with the maximum effect occurring between 2 and 10 weeks. The results typically last between 3 and 6 months, depending on individual factors such as body chemistry, lifestyle, dosage, and concentration of the injected product.

People using Botox can control their appearance and decide the frequency of treatments to suit their personal needs and expectations.

A key safety aspect of Botox is that its effects are temporary. Any side effects occurring after correct administration are short-lived as the effects wear off. This also applies to dissatisfaction with results – they are reversible, ensuring that muscles and skin return to their original state.

Only very small doses are used therapeutically, and the effect is limited to the injection site. Botox works by inhibiting the release of a neurotransmitter responsible for nerve-to-muscle signals, resulting in muscle relaxation.

What shortens the effect of Botox?

– supplementation with B vitamins (since vitamin B supports the repair of neuromuscular connections weakened by Botox).

– exposure to high temperatures (such as sauna, sunbeds, or strong sunlight).

– physical activity and metabolism rate.

– intensive skincare, massages, and certain treatments.

– excessive use of facial expressions.

Does the face look artificial after Botox?
No. A correctly chosen dose, concentration, precise application to specific muscles, and at the proper depth will create a relaxed, rested, and youthful appearance.

Does Botox work on all types of wrinkles?
No. Botox only works on dynamic facial wrinkles caused by muscle contractions. It does not affect static wrinkles – other treatments are better suited for those.

Does Botox work the same way in all areas?
No. Botox’s effects can vary depending on the individual’s body and the strength of different facial muscles.

Is Botox a filler?
No. Fillers physically fill wrinkles, depressions, and tissue defects, whereas Botox blocks neuromuscular signals, leading to muscle relaxation.

Is botulinum toxin addictive?
It’s addictive… but only in the sense of wanting to maintain a rested, relaxed, and youthful appearance.
